Long Road to the Internet. Dejan Ristanovic has lived many iterations of the Internet in Serbia. As a student at University he had one of the first email addresses in the country. Before long that system was connected to a global network of University computer systems, but then cut off due to war. The country had thriving BBS scene at this point which found many ways to connect to the rest of the world by routing email traffic through other systems. This history is little-known outside of Serbia and well worth exploring.
